The company that scrutinized former intelligence agency contractor
Edward Snowden for US government security clearance has said it had also
checked the background of the Navy Yard shooter. USIS, working as a
contractor for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), conducted a
background review of Aaron Alexis, Reuters reported. He was identified
by law enforcement authorities as the shooter who killed 12 people at
the Washington Navy Yard before he was shot dead on September 16.
Earlier this year, USIS became the focus of congressional scrutiny
because the company handled the most recent background investigation of
Snowden.
